Says the person sitting in front of a laptop, probably in a cozy bedroom or house. The vast majority of people who built this country struggled way more than you could even imagine.

Conquests have been going on since the beginning of human civilization. You are not entitled to land or resources just because you have a certain skin color, religion or culture. If you think the native tribes didn't participate in war & violence before Europeans showed up I've got news for you.

Slavery only hurt America..long story short, wealthy southern slave owners didn't want to invest in industrial technology. The north did. The north was more technologically advanced. The north won the war. Of course, I'm sure it's a little more complex than that but to say that America was built exclusively on the backs of slaves is extremely ignorant

Before I go any further commenting, there are a couple of things I need to clarify: (1) that in an earlier post, I inadvertently neglected to use the words 'their descendants" in reference to African slaves helping to build America. As you mentioned, all that slaves made possible was to enable plantation owners to maintain aristocratic Southern lifestyles, while generations of their offspring have greatly contributed to building America overall; (2) I am aware and appreciative that my race, ethnic origin and culture influence my perspectives, as they do anyone.

It's my feeling that the history of immigration to the Americas or humankind's propensity for violence and war are far too broad a topics to be discussed here, although they are interesting enough on their own. Therefore, much like the OP, my primary focus remains centered on the present day dilemma of immigration to the U.S.
