I moved to Ohio some decades ago, for career-reasons (shockingly enough). Somewhat recently left Ohio, for similar reasons. But beyond workplace/career, there are broader issues of the economy, culture, and demographics.

Ohio's problems are not strictly-speaking political. They're cultural.

That's because their main concern is to thoroughly deprecate the next lower socioeconomic tier of society. And the worst predicament imaginable, is to find oneself ineligible for benefits paid to said lower tier, while paying taxes that funds those benefits.

Exactly. It's less about politics (abortion, LGBT, flag-burning, legalization of pot,...) than about what you deftly termed "blue collar populism". Experts are suspect, science is bunk, "the elites" are corrupt and morally execrable, and the deepest woes of society could readily be solved with simple solutions, if only we had enough spine and spunk. So go the bromides. And if you aren't (sorry, "ain't") with us, you're ("your"?) against us.

I find Ohio to be under-rated and a place that could also be doing much better than it does..it has so many assets. However, don't want to let the secret out too much! I can see lots of folks coming to the same conclusion I did! Great for those who want a four-season climate, affordability, cultural amenities (at least in the cities), great natural areas, sports teams, etc. etc.
We have family in the Waynesville area. We are looking to be within 20 minutes or so.

We were supposed to move on 12/28 but our sale here fell through. Which will probably turn out to be a blessing as it gets us away from the holiday and gives COVID a little time to settle down. Our family there doesn't take COVID seriously.

A large percentage of the non-Libertarian Republican base in Ohio is firmly opposed to abortions. I don't know of a single Republican politician in Ohio who supports abortion privacy rights.

True. In the midst of the worst of this pandemic, the only bills being sent to DeWine are the typical guns-n-abortion BS.

<<The Ohio [Republican-passed and signed by Republican Gov. John Kasich] law prohibits physicians from performing an abortion if they're aware that a diagnosis of Down syndrome, or the possibility, is influencing the decision. Those who defy the ban would face a fourth-degree felony charge, be stripped of their medical license and be held liable for legal damages. The pregnant woman faces no criminal liability under the law.>>
