put one in cincinnati to stop the bleeding of mega bucks to indiana. if that's the platform on this issue, that ohio is losing millions to other regions outside of ohio, the most money is being lost in sw ohio. and cincinnati, like st. louis and detroit, could benefit pretty good from a downtown casino.

I thought you were being sarcastic, werent you?

I thought you meant like Cleveland doesnt need it because its closer to a lot of casinos and other areas could need it more. If you werent being sarcastic, or didnt mean that, than I apologize for that.

and do you think its the govt's job to dictate morality?
Ohio has already taken a businessman's right to allow smoking in his establishment so a few people cant control themselves with gambling then get rid of bingo and the lottery,

I watch my mother in law spend her SS check at the corner store on instant bingo and lotto tickets .
and the odds of getting hit by lightning is greater than hitting the lotto , bring the jobs to Ohio, keep Ohio's money in Ohio.
drive over to mountaineer and ride through the parking lot and every car except the employees are Ohio plates

No, I was being serious. I knew that PA didn't have casinos and I thought they passed a new law to allow casinos recently?

I'm going to agree with Hillside here on this one, the area with the most casinos in short driving range need casinos the most -to stop the bleeding.

Cincinnati:

Argosy: 20 mins.
Grand Victoria: 40 mins.
Beltarra: 50 mins.

Cincy-Rise, just for the record ... Pennsylvania's legislature allows slots parlors, but not full-blown (full-service??? LOL) casinos; most of the slots parlors are affiliated with existing race tracks. There is a slots parlor at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, which is 90 minutes from Cleveland.

This is Pa.'s version of the Ohio Lottery -- the slots revenue will keep us poor embattled taxpayers from rising property taxes and benefit education. Uh-huh ...

ETA: You can get to Argosy in 20 minutes? Wow ...

Aside from the oversized billboard at the I75 and I71 split that says, "Argosy, 20 minutes away" ... yep. I live downtown.

IMO I think all 3 Cs should get casinos at the very least. Its sad up here around Cleveland, they actually have greyhound/other buses that go to all the retirement homes and other places and take them straight to the casinos in other states to gamble. Im sure its like that in other places in the state too. Thats millions of dollars gone right there.

I agree that the places in Ohio closest to the casinos in other states could need them the most. But Youngstown and Cleveland really need em also.

Default It is the same old story......

Same as every other casino and all the promises.

What nobody ever talks about are all the negatives. Especially those "Social Problems". Lots of ruined lives. I know my share of them. In fact I am in that area that can go to Wheeling, lots of them do.

All they ever talk about is how much they are winning.

The facts are the vast majority lose and lots of them lose big. Small events like enough to cause the sale of their homes, businesses and totally ruin their lives. One gas station I know of is for sale because of gambling debts, same for a liquor store. I know more than my share of peeps who have been wiped totally slick, hey they even allow them to spend money they do not have, credit cards work beautiful.

They never talk about the herd of losers that will be created. They do talk about all the "Revenues that are generated". That is actually the sucker money and misery that goes with it. They talk about Responsible Gambling. I know very few gamblers in that category. I know a lot of them who will spend every dime they have and try to get more from me.

Ohio just does not need a casino anywhere and all the misery that goes with it. Will not stop peeps from running here or there seeking the thrill that never comes. It is the worse thing to happen as a means of entertainment or method to raise money, jobs and all the rest they love to spout about. It is the one method where folks can and do lose very serious money. They may still gamble but it never should be so close.

Forget the casinos and open more prisons, get the jobs that way. They even pay better wages.

hope you aren't serious about the prison thing...ohio currently comes up with a big chunk of their school budget from the lottery. the lottery preys on the misery of the poor and the financial strain of the working class and nobody says anything, so why not casinos? you might as well give out another bush tax cut .

The thing is, most the people here that would do it, do that in other states anyways. I think it would be better if they are gonna spend all their money anyways to at least spend it in Ohio than in other states, however harsh that may sound.
