My DH and I currently reside southeast of Columbus and My DH commutes to the city for work. We have been discussing lately moving either to the city or possibly to Huron.

Huron is a great town of about 8,000 right on Lake Erie. Not far from Cleveland and Sandusky, so lots of entertainment near by. I know a lot of people buy summer houses up on the lake. Most of them live in southern Ohio and Indiana. They have summer houses and bring their boats and head out to some of the islands out on the lake. Like the Kelly Islands. If you dont get there by boat they get there by plane. Huron is a great place to live.

Graduated from Huron High--so did my girls. I can tell you alot about Huron--good and bad. Lovely town, can be very snobby (keep up with the Jones'), but can be nice. Small town politics! Schools were in major financial trouble just a couple of years ago, but I think they're bouncing back. Highest property taxes in that area. Always loved living on the lake, but the fishing hasn't been really good for several years. Many of the Huronites don't ever set foot on the beach. May I suggest also looking at Milan or Perkins. Both are right next door to Huron. Last I heard Milan schools were top rated and you'd still be able to enjoy the islands and Cedar Point. There are many small towns around there. I'd check them all out. Any place up there definitely still has that small town feeling that so many are looking for. Good luck!

Huron is a great place! I grew up there & still visit every once in a while--as my parents are still there. It's a small town, with a small town feel. The beach is only 10 minutes away no matter where you live in Huron. If you're into sports, I heard they just got a new track/bleachers at the high school!

Huron is a nice little town. I grew up here and find it hard to think about leaving! There are several public beaches and many of the neighborhoods have private beaches. Sandusky is 15 minutes away and finally getting more shopping options. Firelands is definitely a bike-ride-away from most areas in Huron. There is no public transportation. We have one taxi service! Not sure on the renting of houses, but I know there is a pretty good variety of pricing for homes and there are several nice apartment/condo establishments in the area. Check out Cedar Point for DH and there are a lot of new businesses/homes going up so it seems work wouldn't be a problem.
