I am new member (who's been lurking for a year or two.) I noticed there are no forums on Bryan, Ohio. It is a town of about 8,000 in the North West corner, one hour from Toledo and one hour from Fort Wayne, IN. Bryan has a Walmart. Defiance, about 15,000 pop., is 20 minutes away. Defiance has Lowes, Menards, a small mall, Applebees, Meijer, Defiance College, etc. Near Bryan is an accredited college called Northwest State Community College. We are currently building a 62 million dollar addition to our hospital, Community Hospital of Williams County. Bryan Parks and Recreation Department does a nice job keeping the park system neat, useable, and pretty. The downtown is built on a "square" with a beautiful courthouse. Some of the buildings have been renovated, but many still need updated. A grant to restore our downtown is in the works. Bryan is mostly based on manufacturing, especially molded plastics and auto parts. It is in Williams County, which currently has a 15% unemployment rate. Weather is pleasant in the Spring, Summer, and Fall but miserable in the Winter.
It is a very safe town and a good place a raise a family. There is MUCH I didn't mention. I would be happy to answer any questions.

My husband and I would like to move to Bryan, looking for a long term lease.......we are empty nesters and he is working for a few more yrs. We came back here to be near his folks.....We have close friends in Edon and we like being close to the Amtrak station, I go to NYC to visit my son, great way to travel.

As far as realtors the Carlin Company is the best in my opinion. Terry Zimmerman is best to contact about finding rentals.
As for the city of Bryan, I feel it IS safe for families and has great parks. The schools are well respected too. The renovation on the hospital has turned out great too.
BUT, I am ready to leave. As the original poster said, it's all manufacturing around here. When you check the newspaper (The Bryan Times) for jobs it's only nurses, truck drivers, and factory jobs.
There are no opportunities in this small town. A 15% unemployment rate is HORRIBLE
Everyone is on welfare around here and the only store to shop at is Walmart!
So......safe yes. Good schools and community atmosphere.......yes. JOBS: NO!
