Moving to the OKC Area (Norman, Stillwater: apartments, lease, month-to-month)

I am moving to the OK and am trying to find a place to live without signing a one year lease. I would like a house/townhome/duplex. I am not into apartment living. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look or who to talk to?

What part of town do you want to be in? Budget?

I am looking from Yukon down to Norman. I prefer Norman, even though I am not a student. My budget is from $500 to $800, which includes utilities. If I have to, I can go up to $1000.

With that kind of a budget, I'm not sure you'll be able to avoid apartments. A house for $500, including utilities? Not gonna happen. Even $1000 would be difficult.

I'm currently in a 1-bedroom, 800 sq ft apartment, and ALL utilities are included, as well as Cox cable and internet. I pay $675. It's decent. The buildings are old but well maintained. There are 2-bedroom townhomes here than run $900 to $950. PM me if you want more info.

Add: The min lease here is 6 months, but you can go month-to-month for a higher monthly payment.
There are also furnished corporate apartments here that go by the week, but they are more costly.

Wow, I didn't know rent was so high in Norman. In Stillwater houses with two bedrooms start around $500 or $600 a month, no utilities paid.

So wrong. I lived in Norman and Stillwater. Cost of rent is rather cheap for a house in Norman. Look up craigslist! You should be able to find many 1000sq ft homes for around 600-800 depending on all those wonderful individual reasons. Or just wait until school gets out...Then all those properties your not seeing will become available.

To the OP, I think its going to be tough to get a 6 or 9 month lease for a house or duplex in your price range. Most homes in OKC are rented out by private individuals and will probably require a year lease minimum, especially in a college town like Norman.

I would really urge you to give apartment living a second look. There are some halfway decent apartments in Norman away from the university area (and therefore a bit quieter--I'm assuming you don't like apartments because they are loud). The selection in Yukon is a little thinner but nicer and probably more expensive. You could easily find a one bedroom and meet the upper part of your range when utilities are include.
