My husband, children, and I are planning on driving from Dallas to Minnesota beginning Thursday afternoon. Do you think the ice will be gone in OK by then, or should we wait it out another day or so?

I "think" it should be mostly gone by then but with high temps barely getting above freezing and down into the 20s at night I don't know how fast it will melt. I'm thinking you should be good to go though. You could take 75 up through the eastern part of the state; it didn't get hit quite as bad as OkC. That route will take you through Tulsa and it got hit really bad.
All in all though, I really think you'll be fine. You might want to worry about points north though; Kansas and Missouri got hit as well.

Forget about taking 75 through Tulsa. I-35 is perfectly fine and will be on Thursday. Go Thursday, we're expecting snow here on Friday.

Something else you may want to consider is posting on the states that you will be passing through. This was such a far reaching storm and it came pretty far north. You don't want to be stuck driving on ice for hundreds of miles.

I wouldn't take 75 as an alternate route. 69 would be better, as an alternate to I-35. You will be better off probably on I-35.

OKC was hit hard with 650,000 w/o power in the state. 23 deaths around the state and trees crushed. Areas with the most trees seem to be the worst. Edgemere Park still does not have power and it is in the middle of OKC. But it is looking better. I drove around the city yesterday visiting family and was able to eat in bricktown. OKC did not look half as bad as Norman. Im sure everything will rebound. Both metro Tulsa/OKC were hit the worst.

Good to see you back, Happy. I hope all your family is doing well. I am not looking forward to seeing the damage when I go to OKC. I heard that the Myriad Gardens had a lot of damage. The fires have been so terrible too, with more lives lost.
We will be amazed at the way the trees will survive. I hope people will give them a chance and not cut the ones down that are not so severely damaged.
