Really sorry for his family...
But looks like he really couldn't take the fall of his empire or his ego...

Regardless of the mishap of some of his business dealings, A-McClendon was an integral part of bringing the Thunder to OK City and elevating the overall economy and profile of this city.

He was a well-known entrepreneur who gave a lot to charity and who created many jobs here in Oklahoma and in the Houston area. He is one of the most influential energy sector leaders, not only in Oklahoma and this region, but in the world.

Most importantly, as you note, prayers to his family. Tough deal.

My husband worked in o/g for 50 years and has known/worked with some influential/knowledgeable men who certainly had lower profiles...and knew peoplevwho worked with him st Chesapeake...

McClendon was as much about his "brand" as he was about o/g business...
If he was guilty of those charges, and that is very likely, it was such a short-sighted decision...
In our area (DFW surrounding) Chesapeake was (in)famous for overpaying for bonus money and running up the prices from drilling rights to rig rentals, to crowd other companies out, often far beyond reason...even building his monumental office building...
Of course, he is not the only o/g guy who thought he was bullet-proof...
My husband worked with some who forgot that o/g is a cyclical/slippery slope---and who might have their fingers burnt in this glut they created...

We, ourselves, benefitted from his ill-considered largess when they leased mineral rights in a suburban neighborhood (1/4-1/3 acre lots) where there was basically no hope of getting a pipeline to move the gas...but we were happy to take the signing bonus...

Hubris--MacBeth, MacArthur, McClendon
Like I said, very sorry for his family
Hope he had good estate planning advice
