Anyone wishing to adopt any animal even a turtle should first research the specific turtle they are interested in to determine if it would fit into your life. Turtles have very long lifespans and require much more care than it would seem at first glance. Hopefully, you have already considered these things for your turtle. The last thing I would encourage you to do is to adopt...yup, I said adopt a turtle. There are apparently many that are turned over b/c people no longer want to invest their time or money with them any longer.

Anytime you are interested in an animal, always check this website Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder on this website you can search for cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, hamsters, horse and all the barn yard animals you can think of!

This is what I found using the website above. Please check these places and read their adoption policies. This turtle sanctuary had several babies up for adoption. Maybe you can help save a little one! About Turtle Time Sanctuary

I've worked in petstores for about 5 years, and I can tell you that Amazonchix is absolutely right. Besides that point, Federal law states that no pet turtle can be sold whose shell is 4in or less in diameter, unless sold for research or education purposes. It is for public health reasons, mainly due to the fact that so many children were getting salmonella in the 70's and 80's by not washing their hands after handling them!
