We're trying to sell our house and move back to the OKC area. One big thing that changed in the almost five years we've been gone - - we got older. My husband and I went on Medicare March 1. We still have the insurance that we've had since about 1970, but it's secondary and the approved amounts for doctor reimbursement will be based on Medicare. Our doctor here isn't taking any new Medicare patients, although his existing patients are OK.

We're concerned about finding new doctors when we move back to OKC. We'll most likely be in the Edmond area.

Does anyone know how to go about finding doctors who will take new Medicare patients? I guess I could contact the OU Medical Center. (Oh, that hurts my little Cowboy heart.) Maybe a city-wide medical association of some sort.

Thank you.

Find a Physician

INTEGRIS Health: FindADoctor

If you move to Edmond, I heartily suggest Dr. Terrill Hulson at Westbrook Mercy Physicians on 15th between Santa Fe and Kelly. He's GREAT!

And DM me if you're interested in buying my house

The good news is you have insurance. The bad news is you have "that" insurance. We ran into this issue when we moved my mom from Texas to Washington who was on Medicare. Folks have no idea how finding a doc when you go on Medicare can be a huge problem - at least we didn't. Your main option will be to go to the ED, get admitted, and then the hospital will hook you up with a provider if you are not able to find one. Unfortunately, that is the way the system works. An alternate route is to go to a specialist - they all take Medicare - and then see if you can leverage with that doc to find a PCP. The reason for this issue is that PCPs cannot afford to carry a high base of Medicare pts and cover costs - especially with the requirements of the ACA. We are looking to move to Edmond as well and will have to go through the same hoops we did in Washington. Good luck.
