No Ma'am. That, is a RATTLESNAKE! That has to be the biggest rattler I've ever seen! At least I think it's a rattler; notice the rattle at the end of the tail. I think it's a Diamondback Rattlesnake because of the distinctive diamong markings. Also, notice the angular head; most poisonous snakes have that angular head (triangle shaped).

If it were a bull snake I doubt anyone would have bothered to kill it. Bull snakes are great pest eliminators. It's sad that poisonous ones are killed as well, but they do pose a danger to people when they are in populated areas.

A big snake like that doesn't bother me in the least as long as there is someone around to keep it from squeezing me to death, but a rattlesnake? Now that is another matter. Glad to see it is dead.

By reading the article, it sounds like they are saying it is false. So, this is an urban legend?

Well, check this out:

Urban Legends Reference Pages: Texas Rattlesnake

That recipe sounds kind of good, though. I think this is more of a rural legend.

Well, I have been fooled again. Wonder how big they can get?

P.S. I just checked it out. The largest on record is slightly over 6 foot.
