I'm moving to Stillwater and getting Homeowner Insurance rates...They are almost 3x what I'm paying in CO for a house that's half the size! Ouch. Any suggestions on who has the best rates for the Stillwater area? So far I've called USAA and Geico.

Thanks,

Mike

Your question prompted me to register so I could respond to your question.

Do not...I repeat...DO NOT go with Union Mutual out of Piedmont. They are cheap, but hideous. They literally ruined me.

I lost everything I owned in the August 30 2011 wildfire on the northeast part of OKC. Now, 6 months later, I finally just 2 weeks ago got my settlement check. It still isn't settled. I signed the check over to my mortgage company and am now waiting for them to finalize my settlement and send me a check for the balance.

And the State Insurance Commissioner: Forget about it. Worst than Union Mutual Insurance Company.

You'll pay more, but you should probably go with a well known company. My neighbors who also lost their homes got their settlements and were rebuilding after 30 days.

AAA beat everyone we checked with by almost half when we bought our newest house in May 2011. Our previous carrier (Travelers Insurance managed by Geico) couldn't even come close, so we dropped them to save some money.

The State Insurance Commssioner is a GOP hack who's job is to protect the poor insurance companies from any mean old policy holders.

Then has this commissioner taken campaign money from insurance companies? If so, I would think the ethical thing for him to have done is decline such money. Since politicians can now accept campaign donations from companies(after all, Romney said corporations are people, too), a responsible voter better check where a politician's money is coming from. Why would a company want to donate to a politician, unless it has an agenda for that politician to hopefully deliver for it?

I second AAA. Half has much as Farmer's (or State Farm can't remember)

Collecting on house insurance claims has apparently done the town well from the new looks of some neighborhoods. In recent years, a couple of unusual big hail storms caused damage and so a good number of people have put on new shingles and repainted or resided their homes. High home insurance rates eventually paid off.
