Hi,

Any British expats in Edmond/OKC? Or any other world weary travellers? Everyone seems to have their own circles of friends here and have been here forever, the Hiya is cheerful enough but it never goes any further. I feel exhausted and lonely from trying to meet people.

Childcare - is part time childcare for a toddler an option? Am desperate to get out to work (and meet some people) but really don't want to work full time. 2 problems to that being I can't find part time childcare and part time jobs all seem to be for teenagers, any suggestions?

Thanks for any suggestions
S

Hi Manfa77

Raising small children can be very lonely, especially when you are new in town. What part of town do you live in? I will check with my younger relatives to see what they know about childcare.

Thanks for your reply, it's much appreciated. We stay in Edmond/N OKC. Guessing though there is not much of an expat community here in Oklahoma.

The only British people I ever knew were jumping horse trainers in north Edmond.

I guess you have tried Britishexpats.com. I lurked around there today and found it quite interesting.

Hi Manfa,

I'm not an expat, but my husband is. He's been here 5 years now. I lived for awhile with him in England. I'd like to get to know you. I know how hard it is making friends. While I was off living in England all my friends moved away from OKC so there wasn't anyone left when I moved back! I've been trying to meet people for awhile but my interests usually lead me to things like painting classes that are full of retired people.

I don't have any ideas about childcare but I can tell you that after 5 months of searching I did finally find a part time job that uses my education and pays fairly well. I found it by going through companies websites instead of Monster. You might try places like hospitals/dr offices which seem to occasionally have part time office jobs.

If you'd like to email me, my address is tracyjax@hotmail.com

You didn't mention how old your toddler was. You might look into "Mother's Day Out" programs. That seems to be one of the only forms of part-time child care here. They're usually 2 or 3 days a week for a few hours a day.

I know this isn't any comfort, but I want to thank you for posting this. I have been here for quite some time and have had a horrible time making friends as well. I thought it was just me.
