Not sure, but have read in some tribes each bear claw represents something, a deed, an enemy killed, a bear killed, etc.

The Sac and Fox tribe have some great warriors. In the 1860's when tribal leaders went to Washington DC to speak with the Great White Father, they would be given a peace medal. I am not sure if that is what he is wearing, but it looks like one.

As for the uniform, I have no idea. Many tribes were enlisted to fight for the french or english or spain in the colonial wars. And often parts of uniforms were taken in battle and worn by the warriors.

Their tribe is just north of us.

I remember that old Indian in "The Outlaw Josey Wales." He was quite a character and if I recall, he had a military uniform similar to that.

If any of you haven't seen that movie, you're missing out.

Seen it many times........Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite actors.

My sister met him in Detroit in 2003.
Somewhere I have a picture of them together.

Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Ten Bears was Will Sampson, Oklahoma Native, who played the Comanche chief.

Chief Dan George played Lone Watie, I assume a fictional kinsman of General Stand Watie, of the Confederate Army.

Chief Dan George has always been one of my favorites, from the first time I saw him in a movie.

The Native Americans did things cool before they were called "cool."
