What is the story behind this old iron bridge? It is in the middle of Horse Creek and not attached to land. I was just wondering why it was never finished.

Okie

Maybe they were just left derelect when the new bridge was constructed because it's cheaper to let them die a natural death than have to demolish them. Who's seen the road to Key West? They left a lot standing and just put in new all the way. A lot of old railroad derelects around too, probably for the same reason - - - $$$

I think you are right FCB. It sounds funny to say let them die a natural death, though. As opposed to bridgicide? Good place to fish off of.

Galloping Gertie was the old Tacoma Narrows bridge in WA. It was supposed to be the latest and greatest when it was built, but when the wind blew, it heaved and rippled like it was the epicenter of a major earthquake. It was finally closed down and replaced. There's some old film footage of it during one of it's worst displays, people abandoning their cars and trying to get to the closest land. As I recall, a number of cars were flipped off it, but I don't remember if any lives were lost.
