Wow.

New Oklahoma Abortion Law Violates Patient Privacy, Critics Charge - Political News - FOXNews.com

So glad I don't live in a place anymore that is represented by morons who would come up with this.

It's so wonderful, too, how the guys don't have to report anything, though they are 50% of the reason why the women get abortions. The law is unjust and should be repealed. I doubt if it will work to discourage abortions. And the law is sure too late to save the unborn baby. What government policy should better concentrate on is promoting on how to keep an unwanted pregnancy from happening in the first place.

I can't see this law doing anything to make Oklahoma look like a better, more civilized and more free state.

And just think you could have been a productive citizen of Oklahoma and fought this. Instead you took the recipient way out.

It will be struck down like most unconstitutional laws passed in pretty much every state. Nice to see you're still singling us out.

This law is outrageous and if this had been proposed that men obtaining Viagra prescriptions be "outed" it would have never passed.

I am embarrassed that the state I have adopted as "home" has come up with such asinine law.

It should be repealed immediately.

From the article...

But Oklahoma State Rep. Dan Sullivan, the Republican who authored the bill, told Foxnews.com the data will be useful in stepping up education that targets demographics with high rates of unwanted pregnancies.
"If there's something that we can do to positively impact that segment of that population -- and have a lowering effect on those rates -- then we want to be able to look at what policy decisions we can make."
Sullivan said the suggestion that women from small communities will be easily identified has been "misrepresented." He said that of the 77 counties in Oklahoma, only three have abortion providers.
"If a woman from rural Oklahoma (county) goes to Tulsa (county) and has an abortion, her abortion stats are lumped together with all the other women who went to Tulsa to seek an abortion," Sullivan said.
"There's no way a person can be singled out or identified the way it would be listed."
>>>>>

Seems that the demographic information (even if it was on a website) would make it near impossible to actually decipher the person having the abortion. If this measure cuts down on the taking of an innocent life then I'm for it.

Some of us "backward" Okies actually are against abortion. Even a few of us actually have indoor plumbing, construct coherent sentences, and graduated high school and have college/masters/doctoral degrees.

I am, for one, unapologetically supportive of Pro-Life measures. (This 'ol Dixicrat is Pro-Life.) In fact, most Okies are supportive of Pro-Life laws even though we are a heavily registered Dem state. This is precisely the reason why Oklahoma is the "Reddest of the Red States."

Yeah, and in the meantime how many taxpayer dollars will be spent trying to repeal it (if that actually happens)?? Let me know when this happens and I'll buy you a beer! And none of that 3.2% okie crap.

BTW, remember your long rant about constructive and non-constructive criticism? Why can't you take some every now and then? This DOES reflect poorly on the state and it IS an actual law that goes into efffect next week...I'm not making this stuff up man.

I imagine if I took the time to look around, I could find something enacted down there in Baja Oklahoma that would not reflect so well on your current locale. Thanks for being a seagull (fly over, crap on everything, then fly away).

Or Kansas, or Colorado, or Utah, or Minnesota... did you truly believe that Oklahoma was the only state that mandated the sale of 3.2 beer?

Besides, I don't drink any of that generic Budweiser crap anyway, regular OR low point. My beer of choice is Molson.

I never said it was a good idea. It DOES reflect poorly on Oklahoma. It was your closing remark that I took issue with. Why do you take time out to hate Oklahoma? Honestly? Why the effort?

I mean, I hate Texas and can't wait to get back to OKC to help change Oklahoma for the better, but I don't go on Texas boards and trash it back to the stone age. It is a waste of my time. I channel my time and energy to focus on what matters.

I am against abortion, too. But I am not willing to dictate what somebody else can and cannot do.

I can also tell you what a good way is to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Sex education.

I realize we are in the buckle of the bible belt but I guarantee you that frank sex education and providing your children with birth control is 100% more effective than quoting the bible and preaching abstinence.

Teenagers have no business having sex because they are not emotionally equipped to deal with it. However, their hormones may dictate otherwise so lets make sure they are protected.

Getting back to the article ..... if the purpose is to "stepping up education that targets demographics with high rates of unwanted pregnancies" yet "If a woman from rural Oklahoma (county) goes to Tulsa (county) and has an abortion, her abortion stats are lumped together with all the other women who went to Tulsa to seek an abortion," I call BS.

Just hold a state wide education spree. This does not require taking names.

And incidentally, a 2 month old cell is not an "innocent life". Would you prefer a child is born in a situation with parents who are not capable of taking care of it?

I am not surprised a Republican came up with this. They appear to be more concerned about the unborn while always striving to cut social services for the kids already here.

Lastly, don't patronize me about "backward Okies". I get pretty peed off when I hear people say this. Okies are strong, smart and fiercely independent which is why I feel so much at home here.

I won't even bother responding to your beer comment as it is irrelevant and uninteresting.

The reason I still take an interest in OK is that I have family members living in a house I STILL OWN in OKC buddy. Do YOU still pay taxes in OK or OKC? I do. Plus, my first degree was from OU and I still have good friends that live in the area. So, I DO take an interest in what goes on there for good reason!

And, PLEASE, feel free to throw some hate Texas' way my friend! It won't bother me one bit because I don't have an unhealthy self-esteem issue tied to my choice of city/state.

See you on the next OK/OKC thread!

Enough of that...I do sincerely hope this law is repealed...hopefully no one is naive enough to believe the "facts" gathered from the data collected will be used by politicians to render useful research and "future policy" to prevent unwanted pregnancies. I can't believe the government meddles in affairs like this.
