Anyone else feel like the city blew it with the 72nd and Military resurfacing this past weekend? For those not familiar with what happened, here's a brief rundown.

Wednesday or Thursday I noticed electronic signs indicating there would be resurfacing starting on Friday, 7/30. No problem...the road was getting kind of bumpy. I fully expected there to be delays, lane restrictions, etc.

What I didn't expect was for portions of the whole intersection to be closed, with no warning and no posted detours. Friday evening, before 9 PM, southbound 72nd St. was fully closed at Ames. With no posted detour, all 72nd St. traffic was instead forced to turn left at Ames, and --again, with no posted detour-- make its way through either Benson Park or through my neighborhood south of 66th and Ames.

Also, beginning either Friday evening or Saturday morning, and continuing through Sunday night, westbound Military Ave. was closed at 72nd. Again, no posted detours. The only sign on westbound Military was one at about 69th indicating just "right lane closed ahead". Uh... not just the right lane... the entire road! With no posted detours, once again, westbound travelers had to either go all the way up to Crown Point Rd. to continue west, or go left at 72nd St. (with the traffic-sensitive light not detecting any traffic with the lanes being closed, and only allowing two cars at a time to get through) and then either go to Maple or wind through the Keystone neighborhood to get back to Military or Fort St.

As far as I'm concerned this was a total mishandling of a streets project by the City of Omaha. No posted detours? Closing 72nd St. relatively early on a Friday night? No modifications to the traffic light causing traffic to back up 6 blocks just waiting to get through the light 2 vehicles at a time? Total mismanagement of this project.

You said it....what a joke! Next time I hope they do a better job of detouring people!

I took heed to the electronic signs prior to the resurface and avoided the intersection. From the sounds of it, I'm glad that I did.

I did cruise down there yesterday and that area was nice and smooth!
