Is this tax supposed to be charged to EVERYBODY in Omaha or people who live outside of the city limits that work in Omaha?

I thought the people that lived outside of Omaha and worked in Omaha whined about it enough to where it was removed. Am I wrong? If I am wrong, that's great.

NO...that was the commuter tax. The wheel tax is imposed on anyone within 3 miles, while the commuter tax was to be charged to anyone living outside that drove into Omaha--meaning Council Tucky, La Vista, Papio, etc.

Neither one is actually on anyone that has the power to vote the tyrants out of office, so both should be illegal. The state legislature has only outlawed the commuter tax.

Actually, you missed something here . Omaha will have to stop charging the wheel tax for those in that 3 mile zone after 2 years.

So I live in NW Omaha 129th and Fort area. On the postcard that I got, it says that there is a $50 wheel tax. Is that normal?

No that's BAD! These people use omaha's roads daily and now won't pay a dime. Taxes should also be based on use, not just where you live.

In Sarpy County wheel taxes are only levied on SID residents within a 3 mile radius of Omaha. I live in an incorporated part of Sarpy county within 3 miles of Omaha and did not pay a wheel tax when I registered my car on Friday.

The commuter tax was dangerous in the respect that it could have sparked a commuter tax war with Bellevue, LaVista and other municipalities that border Omaha. They could have started to levy taxes on Omaha residents who work within their borders.

Really the most efficient and fair way to collect revenue for road projects is through consumption taxes.

accroding to METRO bus, u shouldnt be paying for wheel tax cause that part of town u are on isnt "part of Omaha" as Curt Simon and METRO sees it

(i.e. Curt dont recognize that part of Omaha and wont put a bus route down west maple road out west)

So build a toll booth. And don't even think of driving outside of your precious city limits because you don't pay any wheel taxes in my SID or to the county outside the city.
