There is a growing Muslim population in Omaha. The school that I work at has about 10 Muslim families, one of which is from Egypt. They are treated no differently than anyone else. Children these days are very comfortable with fellow students with head scarves. There has recently been an increase of people from Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Somalia in Omaha and it shows in our public schools. I think that this is a great thing. There are many African grocery marts, cafes, and clothing stores in town that may be worth looking into for work. They are concentrated in midtown, mostly along Saddle Creek, Leavenworth, and Farnam or Harney streets. There are no shortage of other service jobs in town as well. I would think that to get an nicer place to stay for your family it would cost no less than 1000 dollars a month for rent and utilities, maybe a bit more. There is certainly places that are more affordable but are more prone to things like bedbugs, drugs, and violence. One thing to consider for saving on grocery bills is to join a local community garden or garden a plot on the property where you live. My wife an I save so much money on grocery bills in the summer by doing this. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I would avoid North Omaha. Most of the other parts of the city are safe and very affordable. The unemployment rate is very low so finding a job shouldn't be too difficult.

If you're interested in diversity, you may consider looking into the Millard school district's Montessori program for schools. My daughter attended Montclair Elementary and was in the Montessori program for two years. The class was very diverse and it was kind of neat to see all the different cultures represented. Montclair would also be close to the new mosque. (132nd and Center).

You will find that Omaha residents are friendly and welcoming for the most part. Good luck!
