It is kind of sad, I have alot of memories at that place, including my 9th and 10th birthday parties. In the end though I think it's ultimately a good thing. Despite my sentimental attachment, that building was a bit of an eyesore and probably needed to be sacrificed if we are going to see a large scale transformation of the 72nd and Dodge intersection.

Not sure how large scale you are hoping for. A Raising Cane's fast food is taking half the lot, no word on the rest yet.

I hadn't heard that yet. Major disappointment.

A better start would be that building that has petco / kinkos in it. When I moved to Omaha in 1987 that building was in bad shape when Hinky Dinky was there.

Is that the one that used to a Montgomery Ward back in the mid 90's?

It was Service Merchandise for a few years before Petco went it. There was a tiny Amoco on the corner as well back in that time.

We wont see any improvements on 72nd and Dodge unless something major happens to Crossroads first. That or decent transit options. If the streetcar study eventually leads to 72nd and Dodge being the western terminus at first we could se some major redevelopment. Till then its more of the same.

What happened with the plans for the mixed use development? I've been so busy lately I haven't kept up with anything, or even logged on to EOmaha.
