Don't expect Nebraska to follow suit. We are experts in sending all of the tax dollars we could be reaping right across the border to Iowa for the casinos we don't allow. Now we are going to do the same for weed in Colorado.

But hey, there is a reason we keep this stuff away right? As long as Nebraska doesn't have it, we can keep out all the "riff raff" that comes with this stuff, right? I mean, I'm sure when the "criminal element" associated with the casinos are deciding where to live, they choose Council Bluffs over Omaha because Council Bluffs is where all the action is. Because it is so hard to live in Omaha and drive 5 minutes over the river to the casino to hatch your criminal enterprise.

And while we're at it, lets not build any buildings in Lincoln taller than the "majestic" state capitol. We wouldn't want that overshadowed. What a naive, backward thinking group of voters in this state. HEY, WHEN IS MY MILK DELIVERY MAN GOING TO GET HERE. WHY AREN'T ALL THE GIRLS WEARING POODLE SKIRTS?

This is all just an off the cuff rant though. I don't have any actual knowledge as to why our residents are so stupid that they can't take free money when it is trying to be given to them, or why they can't stop supporting a head football coach who not only told the fan base to f--- off in so many words, but can't even win, and in fact loses nearly every key game and loses many of them by 3-4 TD's.

Nebraska. The good life.

I liked having a milk man although I'm probably too old and slow to run after and ride on his back bumper anymore.

One person's misery is another person's dream. Lots of people dream to be in Florida, yet i'm miserable here dreaming for Nebraska. So much so, that my husband and I also decided that he is going to volunteer for a 1 year deployment (likely to Korea) to get a guarantee that he would finish his final 5 years in Omaha (offutt). Luckily, the military will move me and our son to Omaha before he leaves, so atleast i'll be back HOME.

To address the OPs concern, I'd say there are things in life more important than money. Sometimes you sacrifice a little bit of money to not be the armpit of America (Iowa). By not allowing casinos, Nebraska is showing they have quality of life standards. My opinion is they haven't gone far enough, but those casinos are a good start. They are garbage and I'm glad they stay on their side of the river.

Regarding the casinos, cross the river on any day, and after the four minute drive from downtown, we'll find that the majority of cars outside the casinos have Nebraska license plates. Therefore we DO have them in the Omaha metro area and we do experience all of the negatives, we just don't get any of the financial benefits associated with them. Nebraskans need to be more pragmatic about this issue, but this has been the obvious case for many years already. It's not going to change in the foreseeable future.

Omaha isn't misery to me. I still like it and miss many things about the area. I just love where I live now.

Anyone who wants more of the financial benefits associated with casinos is free to buy stock. Harrah's ticker is CZR and Ameristar is ASCA.

Ah, social conservatism....

If the trend towards human freedom continues, eventually people will stop worrying what their neighbors do with their money or what they put in their own bodies.
