FDA Warns New Dawn Nutrition

Quote:
An Omaha company is under watch by the FDA. WOWT 6 News also put this company's products to the test.

"I think I made my first purchase back in October of 2012," said Matt Sullivan.

That's when Sullivan began investing in protein powders to enhance his workouts.

"I'd say in the course of two years, I'd spend maybe $3,000," said Sullivan.

Sullivan says he was working out hard but wasn't getting the results he expected.

"That's when I started the whole process of getting it tested on my own," said Sullivan.

He took his protein powder to Midwest Laboratories in Omaha in May of 2014. The results did not match what was on the label.

"I think my jaw hit the floor. I thought, there's no way. There's no way," said Sullivan.

Midwest Laboratories found the Cake Batter protein had only 19% of the protein promised or 5 grams instead of the 24 listed on the label.

It also found the powder had 21 grams of Carbs and Sugars, more than 700 times the amount promised.
Anyone interested in fitness/health should probably consider steering clear of this establishment and/or buying their supplements from reputable sources.

That's a plant based protein.

Animal based > plant based.

Hemp protein > all other proteins. So plant protein > animal protein.

Nope. If I'm using a protein powder, its whey or casein.

Hemp protein is decent, but the actual protein content of a scoop of hemp protein powder is about 30-40% less than whey or casein, so you end up spending a lot more for less protein.

If it were cheaper and tasted as good and smooth as whey, I would go hemp every day.

I think its smart for everyone to utilize whey, hemp, and soy proteins all on a regular basis.

My protein requirements are over 200 grams per day at the moment. I usually need 3 or 4 protein shakes a day to get to that level, and I get abour 24 grams per serving with whey or casein. Hemp protein is about 13 grams of protein in the same size serving and costs about $2.00 more per lb.

Like I said, hemp protein is decent but still inferior to whey and casein.
