My wife and I, we are both 70, passed through Omaha on our way back from the Black Hills. We arrived early evening and was too tired to explore the City. We left early the next morning, again with exploring. We are planning a better visit and was wondering what to see. We will be visiting Boys Town. Would like to see museums and such. I like western and native American heritage. Would probably cross over into Council Bluffs and east Iowa. Places to eat. I grew up on meat and potatoes and my wife likes seafood. Motels in safe places and places to stay away from at night and during the day. Any info you could give would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Here you go!

Recommended Museums and Attractions:

Henry Doorly Zoo: Home | Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo | Entertainment Omaha | Visit Omaha | Things to do in Omaha (This is one of the finest zoos in America)

Lauritzen Gardens: https://www.lauritzengardens.org/ (And don't just visit the garden; go up the hill on the opposite side of the parking lot and see the trains, too!)

SAC Museum: Ashland, NE | Strategic Air & Space Museum (This is off I80 about halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. If you like planes, space, and military history, it's well worth the visit).

Durham Museum: The Durham Museum (Offers an excellent look at local history, plus it's in a drop-dead gorgeous building)

Joslyn Museum: https://www.joslyn.org/ (Another gorgeous building, with a fine collection of Western-themed art)

The Old Market: Old Market Business District - Home (An eclectic collection of shops and restaraunts in a preserved historic district in downtown Omaha).

Catch a show at the Orpheum Theater (Orpheum Theater Omaha - Orpheum Theater Tickets Available from OnlineCityTickets.com) or a classic movie at Film Streams (Film Streams at the Ruth Sokolof Theater). And check out the current events at Midtown Crossing (http://www.midtowncrossing.com/events/default.aspx); if you come during the warmer months, there are often free concerts hosted there on the Turner Park lawn.

If you're up for a bit of a walk, you might enjoy checking out the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge that links Omaha and Council Bluffs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Ke...estrian_Bridge

As for where to stay: Omaha has a wide selection of hotels and motels, including most of the usual chains, at a wide variety of prices. If it fits your budget, I'd recommend staying in the Old Market. There's an Embassy Suites on 10th Street, which is a very convenient location (http://www.hilton.com/search/es/us/n...0/15?wt.srch=1) The new Hyatt Place is right in the middle of the Old Market (http://omahadowntownoldmarket.place....otel/home.html). And for local color, there's the Magnolia Hotel (Downtown Omaha Hotel Deals & Packages | Magnolia Hotel Omaha)

Most of Omaha is fine to visit; just stay out of the northeastern part of Omaha east of 30th and north of Cass Street and you're not likely to have any trouble.

As for food, there are too many places to list. I'm partial to Spezia (Spezia Omaha |). If you want a wonderful upscale dining experience, the Grey Plume is hard to beat (Home | The Grey Plume).

Have fun planning your trip!

The Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs would be a must see.

The Henry Doorly zoo was just voted best zoo in the WORLD for the second year in a row. If you're up for a little Adventure I would stay at Mahoney State Park.

We had to postpone out trip to Omaha as I hurt my back working on my house 5 months ago. Could not walk for 2 weeks. Physical therapy, 2 MRI's showing 2 pinched nerves in my lower back and so far 4 shots in the back and am progressing but still can not walk well. More shots coming. So we are looking at late August/early September. I appreciate all the info so far and if anyone has suggestions, please list them.

Sorry to hear that health issues have forced you to delay your trip, tramp. But early September is one of the nicest time to visit Omaha! The weather's generally mild and not too hot then.
