Lets say a used $5000 car . like Toyota Camry. any car would do nothing fancy.

and do you need to pay parking in the city?

Some downtown condos come with a parking space included, but generally downtown you'll need to pay to park in a lot. Outside of downtown, you can usually find plenty of free parking.

As for the rest of the costs, you might find this link helpful; Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles - Vehicle Tax Estimator

This list doesn't show any $5000 cars. The Toyota the OP is asking about is $11,000.

There are a lot of variables to owning a used car. If you buy the car outside of the state without sales tax then you will only have the licensing fee in Nebraska which could be $100-$200 a year. Also, on a $5000 car it makes no sense to have full coverage insurance. I only have liability insurance on all of my cars and it averages about $300 a year. So the only expense left is maintenance which could be nothing or several thousand a year depending on the car.

BTW parking in Nebraska almost anywhere is free except in Omaha and Lincoln in the business areas of downtown. I have only paid for parking once in the last 10 years and that was downtown Omaha and it was only $0.50.

OP, is $5000 the cost of the car, or your yearly budget for car expenses?
As the Edmunds link shows, the expenses for a 2010 Toyota Camry are about $5000 per year, assuming no major mechanical failures, so that car would work for your $5000 yearly budget. The Edmunds site breaks it down by fuel, taxes, insurance, etc. If $5000 is just the initial cost of the car, I imagine you can use roughly the same figures, but you'll have lower insurance and taxes, and higher repair and maintenance costs.

Roughly $5,000 per year. Could be more, depending on the condition of the car.

Do you mean $1000 a month for an apartment? If that's what you mean then you are about $400 to much for Omaha.
