Just me, but I think school board members should re-think running once their kids are no longer in the school system.

Some farm co-ops have rules that after so many terms you can not run for re-election on their board of directors until you sit out a term.

( I have served on a school board and have served on a farm co-op board of directors )

Yes, for some board members it is about power. ( IMHO)

Also, the more powerfull they become, the more they lose sight of what the duties and responsibilities of a school board member is and start thinking of themselves as Assistant Superintendents. ( or co-Superintendents)

again , just MHO .

marmac, I agree.

Huston and Jensen and Drickey and Tyree being on their for almost 3 decades or more is proof of that.

at least some good news though:

district 9's rep who is in many people's eyes a RINO (just like District 12's Sandra Jensen)

isnt running again. (I am a registered Independent btw who voted for Suttle for mayor)

I wish Marian Fey and Dave Schinzel the best of luck on replacing McGregor

same with Rob Butler and Justin Wayne in OPS District 1 race

and also same Juliana V. Garza and Roger Garcia in the race for Omaha Public School board district 7

btw: Barbara J. Velázquez was never elected to office. she was handpicked by Sandra Jensen.

just a fact on ops board district 7 's race and it's "incumbent" Velazquez

Lightbulb Term limits?

IF the electorate is public-spirited and well informed, I don't think we need term limits. If the electorate is scared or poorly informed, or both, the voters will elect the squeakiest wheel, the loudest voice, the smoothest talker, the guy who looks the most like Walter Cronkite, whomever -- incumbent or newbie.... In that case, we just have to hope they elect the right person for the wrong reasons.

Hi. I checked with OPS board candidate Marian Fey -- OPS board members are NOT paid. Interesting....

RINO = republican in name only

FCINO= fiscal conservative in name only

McGregor and Jensen are neither. Jensen reminds me of ex Mayor Mike Fahey

(more intrested in having a legacy than actually helping the city)

I am a independent who btw voted for Suttle for mayor. wasnt a big fan of Vokal or Daub when they ran for mayor.
