If it had peas, I'd pick each one out before I commenced eating it.

(Sorry. I grew up in the area and I remember when it was brand new. I think the good ladies of the LaPalma Chicken Pie Shop are still looking under their beds for communists. We didn't even have DEMOCRATS in Anaheim back when I was a kid. )

You HAVE to try this place. It's like Ike is still in office.

Knowing them, I doubt it. Think it was burned out when I left. Love that sign. Sigh............ Memories.

They must be cleaning up from those of us who hate vegetables in their chicken pies. Swansons used to make them that way but apparently not anymore.

promised I'd report back my findings...

went for breakfast at Pop's in Santa Ana....was entirely fine....very competent and friendly waitress (I didn't ask for "Crystal"!)....lots of obvious locals there, one of whom didn't beat the SAPD meter maid to his car and got a $53 parking ticket (I asked him) immediately out front as I sat outside eating my breakfast watching the whole thing....very nice spot and definitely had the local unchanged vibe I was hoping for.....

walked the meal off around downtown SA......

then went and had a malt at the old-fashioned lunch counter at Watson's in downtown Orange, just off the nice leafy town square there on Chapman....I don't think Watson's was recommended in the thread here, but it may not have met all my requests, so I'll excuse you guys this time...instead, a local had recommended it....reputedly the oldest place in OC in one way or another, it was very busy and the staff was happy (always a good sign)....great historic pictures on the wall, including their version of the "wall of fame" of celebs who've dropped by....the entire area there in downtown Orange was very nice....and free parking (unlike Santa Ana!).....

all I had time for, this time.....

Watson's! Forgot all about it. So I take it you survived the Traffic Circle? Tom Hanks filmed "That Thing You Do" in old town Orange. Very glad it was recommended by someone because it IS an old timer.

(BTW I've decided I shouldn't have listed Keno's in Anaheim. Old fashioned vibes and service and the waitress will call you Hon, but the building isn't old at all. Sorry.)

Does the Harbor House (Dana Point/Seal Beach) and Woodies (Seal Beach/Huntington BEach/Newport Beach (count as a mom and pop?

I know this: Harbor House Dana Point counts as some of the worst food I've ever had. At the same time, the peanut butter chocolate shake was some of the best.
