First of all sorry... I know there might be a hundred posts on this subject. I have looked for an hour and have not found an answer to my specific question yet.

My question: If I work in Huntington Beach what would be a good apartment complex or a place to look for a house to rent in or near Huntington Beach; under the following considerations:

1.) Unmarried couple 30 - 35
2.) Love the beach so would not want to be more than half a mile away
3.) Most importantly we don't want to deal with the traffic. We don't mind driving from Long Beach or as south of Dana Point but preferably would love to bike or do a short drive.
4.) Have pets
5.) Really don't want to live in a cookie cuter place. Nothing against them just looking for something different since we don't have kids yet. We will move to one of those soon enough.

I appreciate any help and I understand this is a hard question.

What part of HB will you be working?
What is your budget for a place?
Less than a half mile from the beach will limit your choices and be expensive compared to more inland.

Thanks for the quick reply.

the work is on Goldenwest St. between Yorktown and Garfield

We are looking for a one bedroom (possibly two) nothing fancy, with rent being between 1000 to 2000.

The closeness to the beach is real important to us, so half a mile is a must.

If there is no place in huntington beach for that budget could there be a place like that somewhere south or north of it ?

The location is near downtown HB. This area has a mix of expensive homes (>1M) in certain areas and some older less expensive homes and apartments in other areas. There are some small older apartments that rent near or slightly over your higher end (2K) and "nothing special". It would definitely get you close to the beach and biking distance to work. It's a tourist area also and a party place for the younger crowd around Main Street which is where the pier is with restaurants/clubs with live music. It could get a little rough on Main Street late night with all the partiers.
