Hey all, I might be getting a job with a company in Brea. I don't know a whole lot about the Orange County area, so I'm trying to find out what I can about housing.

I'm looking for one bedroom flats in the $600-$900/mo price range that are within easy commuting distance of Brea. If I could rely on public transportation that would be fantastic (car insurance rates are ridiculous) but I do have a car if I need it. I don't want to be someplace that's too high-crime though.

Does anyone know of places like that in northern OC? Thanks!

The price range you're giving really is a room rental range at the low end and a studio in an unsavory area in the top end. You might have luck around Fullerton College and CSUF, and you might want to try Anaheim. Or, you can go north and look at places like Hacienda Heights. Again, you can rent a room in a nice area for $600 fine, but $900 for a 1bd or studio puts you generally in a bad area, which probably isn't good for someone who doesn't know their way around

Thanks for the advice mate.

I've been looking at rooms, and there's some that are promising, but nothing perfect. I might be able to step the budget up to $1200/mo if there's good public transportation to Brea and lots of stuff in walking distance, so I can do without the car. Anything like that?

Fullerton may have what you're looking for, but you will have to search carefully.

If you eventually decide to keep the car, try Rowland Heights (north of Brea in LA County.)
