Hi,

My husband and I are relocating to Irvine and will be renting a house. I would like to hire a reputable and honorable house cleaning service to clean the house before we arrive. I have done something like this many years ago in Sacramento and that particular service (think it was molly maids) took my money and did nothing!

Any recommendations from experience are appreciated!

Consider asking one of your new neighbors. First, you'll be getting a first hand recommendation and second, that housekeeper will already be in your neighborhood may be able to work you in on the same day, saving her gas and passing the savings on to you.

Cannot help you with specifics, but just an idea, one thins we always did was leave soem cash laying around, under a couch seat, or some other inconsipuous place so it appeared ot have been just dropped. After they cleaned, we woudl look for the cash (sometimes they gave it to us and tolsd us they found it). It presence or absence would determine whether they wre invited to come back and/or whether they were given a tip/Christmas bonus. We finally found some people who picked up any money they found, evne change and gave it to us. Those were the ones we stuck with (and give a nice bonus at Christmas).

I love this idea.

My family has had terrible experiences with cleaning staff, personal in-home nurses, gardeners, etc. taking advantage of their place in the home. I'm absolutely tucking this tip in my hat, should I ever personally need it.

x2. Great idea.

Also second the idea of recommendations from local friends/family. Thats where we've found a majority of our house keepers.
