Does anyone know if there's a pocket of Libertarians who live in OC? Maybe they're scattered all over but I was just curious to know if there's a known area where they might all gravitate to.

No gravitational area that I know. The beach communities tend to have basic libertarian philosophies, though.

I know one in Orange. Out by Lincoln and Tustin Ave. There are two in Laguna Beach. That is probably all of them.

Many are leaving our little "Socialist Paradise" Then return when they are not happy with the quality of education in the american hinterlands, or can't find the services they need for their special needs children.

Although there are other reasons to love OC, we found the quality of education in the hinterlands to be generally better. Medical care is generally better too. Other things (like restaurants for example) are not as good. However I have no idea about special needs education, we have no need of it, so we just don't know.

Didn't you live in the old parts of SA and Orange?

And for a time in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach and Irvine (plus about a month in LA). We are pretty famliar with schools in MV, Irvine, Newport, Tustin, Laguna Anaheim, Fullerton, and a handful of other places, in part because we raised our family with friends having simlar familes living in various locations, in part because our kids attended schools in Tustin, Newport, Orange and Santa Ana, and in part because we extensively investigated multiple school districts looking for a suitable place to move before we decided to move the family out of California. Plus many of our friends are teachers. However you do nto have to attend a school to have a decent idea of its quality and atmosphere. You just need to investigate, visit, interview people and look at stats (notice stats is last because it is least meaningful IMO). A "good" school to me is not just about which kids are pushed hardest by their parents and peers to achieve test scores. The quality of education is certianly not about test scores. It is about teaching methods, class sizes, atmosphere, student behaviour, size of the school, nreadth oand content of education, teachers ability, teacher's satisfaction and drive, student upbringing and work ethic, some people think diversity is an important factor . . . There are probably a hundred issues to consider.

While some parts of Orange county have good to execellent schools, many other parts have mediochre to poor schools.
Some the the "execellent" schools statistically we found to have a poor education atmosphere at least for our kids (too stressful, ridiculously competitive and/or materialistic, etc.)
IN the "hinterlands" we found good to excellent schools more generally available, particularly outside of unsually wealthy areas. More choices for execellent schools, more variety a larger number of cities and towns offering outstanding educaton all over the place.

Cal;ifronai schools as a whole are pretty poor. Orange County as a whole is still not that great. When looking at individual schools you can find excellent schools in every state.

Many of the affluent in the beach communities are only interested in the low tax aspect of the Republican party but don't give two hoots about all the social and religious crap.
