Having said that, I posted the thread almost for the opposite reason, I don't think of Orange County as being particularly super-conservative. So, I try to make observations, to see where this generalization comes from.

IMO, Orange County is more diverse both ethnically and lifestyle-wise than most other equivalent suburban areas of the country.
I think it's really from past perceptions of OC, but today it's more diverse ethnically and politically than, say, 20 years ago.

Funny article, Chester.

Did I miss it, or is Villa Park not mentioned in this thread? VP is incredibly conservative.

I find it strange some people seem to think Yorba Linda / Orange County being conservative / Republican a bad thing. The bottomline is that it's still California. Of course I am speaking generally, but Orange County Republicans are really pretty moderate in the big scheme of things. Your neighbors will not be bible thumpers. That's about as likely as having neighbors with confederate flag on the back window of their pick-up truck. You just aren't going to see that. And the ones that it bother so much, why not just go to LA or San Fransisco?

Most people are most people in a place like Yorba Linda may be registered Republicans, but they have a live and let live and leave me alone attitude. You're not going to hear much about politics unless Sacramento does some really stupid crap... like raise the gas tax, raise car registration, etc.

Some people may recall this about Yorba Linda:
After Vicious Anti-Muslim Rally, a Deafening Silence | Hatewatch

A major Muslim organization released a video compilation (no longer available) earlier this week that depicted a Feb. 13 rally in Yorba Linda promoted by several Muslim-bashing groups, conservative organizations, local and national politicians, and some Jewish leaders. Although the rally started out as a strident but peaceful protest against a Muslim fundraiser that included two highly controversial speakers, a group of about 100 protesters broke away from the main crowd and launched into a series of vicious tirades.

The video is chilling. Small children, clutching their parents’ hands fearfully as they arrive at the fundraiser, cower as people behind police lines wave American flags and scream, “Go back home! Go back home! Terrorists! Terrorists!” A tiny girl in a pink hijab walks past the camera as a man’s voice rises above the crowd: “Muhammad was a child molester!” he shouts. A woman, standing behind a police barrier, bellows at the Muslim cameraman. “You’re a terrorist!” she screams. “Go home, go home! … Do you beat your wife, too? Are you a molester? … You beat your women, your wife and your children. Why don’t you go beat up your wife like you do every night? Why not go have sex with a 9-year-old, marry her?”

The video, which also features a city councilwoman saying she knows some Marines who would be happy to send the “terrorists” attending the fundraiser “to an early meeting in paradise,”...

People may also remember this, again, in Yorba Linda:
Black family reports hate crimes in Yorba Linda - latimes

The last straw for the African American police officer living in an upscale Orange County community was the acid pellets someone shot into his garage in October, the corrosive capsules damaging his car.

It had been an ugly, racially tinged pattern since the Inglewood police officer, his wife — a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy — and their two children had moved into the Yorba Linda neighborhood in 2011.

Rocks were thrown through their windows, car tires were slashed, and racial taunts were shouted by passing motorists. One day, their 6-year-old son came home from school asking why his classmates said they couldn't play with him because he was black.
