I want to get a CA DL having moved here. Can't find My AZ DL. Can the DMV look it up? I have a CA ID card issued by the DMV.

Thats a tough one.

I do not believe the CADMV will be able to verify your AZ DL without the actual card HOWEVER the DMV does ping the NDR (National Driver Register), which, when working correctly, is a national database of suspended/revoked drivers. This is called a PDPS Check, and (again, if working correctly), will also show any serious violations AZ has reported to your license.

It does not, however, show validity, other than verifying if a license is suspended or revoked, so I do not believe the DMV allows PDPS Checks to be used 100% in lieu of a behind the wheel driver's test.

So .... you can either (a) walk into a DMV and ask, or (b) call them - (800) 777-0133. Unfortunately thats a tough question to answer.

Good luck - and go find your AZ license.

BTW, what are you driving with currently?

Thanks. I'm not driving since Sentra is disintegrating. Note: use Car Fax. The paint on the roof that is flaking off reveals Bondo (!) underneath. The car was likely in a roll-over accident, and the steering column has major problems.

The car only wants to turn right.

No more than any other state.
If you can't find your ID, usually they will request a certified copy of your driving record.

And make sure it's not suspended, because if it is, they will be able to find out and will not issue a license.

Hey Cactus,

Did you go to the DMV yet? I just got back from there and boy, was the line looooong. It's always long and it's HOT today! I've always wondered what the looong line snaking outside the office is and found out it's the line for people who don't have an appointment.

I always make an appointment, so do yourself a favor and go online and set an appt up. That long line hardly moved the times I've been there. I think you can make an appt by phone also, but the net is more convenient, because you can select another office if you don't want that particular one.

Even if you get an appointment, you should show up early, because they'll call you up even before your appointment time. Get all the documents you need and fill them out beforehand. You can call the DMV (800-777-0133) to ask what forms you need and then print them out online or get them in the office. This will save you a lot of time.

But make an appointment
