Any other OC Jewish people worry about their safety, besides me? (fit in, earthquakes)

OC is relativity safe, but as we all now know violence can happen anywhere. I carry a concealed weapon (CCW) legally, but I'm worried about my fellow Jews.

Most of us are pretty anti gun/anti self protection. But I'm asking you to reconsider. Take a class, or just think about situational awareness.

When you're in a public place, say to your self, if I need to get out of here quickly (like in a fire) where's my closest exit, usually it's not the entrance you came in. My wife and I have a plan.

If we're in a fire, we both run. If we hear gunshots, she runs, I make sure nobody follows her.

Remember, in an active shooter situation, nobody gets killed if they're three blocks away. Hiding under a table usually won't protect you.

You live in NYC. 'Nuff said. And being the daughter of a Jewish New Yorker (Brooklyn), I have enough personal experience and time in the city to pass judgment.

I don't fear for my life over this, just as I don't fear being targeted for any other reason - as fear isn't a good way to live. I also won't be carrying a weapon because of this tragedy, just as I didn't start carrying one after every massacre against Jews, Caucasians, Russians, Americans, or any other category I fit into. But don't pretend that the rest of the U.S. is anything like NYC for a Jewish person, because that is simply FALSE. You guys live in a bubble out there!!

That being said, I have already done most of what OP suggests (other than carrying my own weapon). I have learned how to shoot, and plan to learn more... I have also been trained multiple times in "active shooter" response, since I work in a public building. It's required for most public workers now, and sadly, a good idea for anyone in this country. Wish it wasn't, but we all know this is a growing concern for ALL people in the US. So you may as well be prepared, just as we do drills for earthquakes, fires, and other natural disasters. What's the harm?

Whether one is Jewish or not, one should learn how to react in an emergency situation and how to protect oneself with basic defensive moves such as Krav Maga or something similar.
