Your boss approaches you and gives you 24 hours to decide to accept a transfer (same company/benefits) to North Dakota for double your salary. The company pays for the move.

Would you do it?

I would not.

Depends on the area's difference in living expenses. I just saw on the news that the area with the oil boom has 450 square foot mobile homes renting at a minimum of $2,500/month. That won't fly with me.

Hell no. I moved to TX on the premise that I could finish college and eventually buy a huge home out here on a chunk of land for 1/4 the cost of a nice home in OC. Needless to say, 6 months later I'm moving back to CA and will gladly pay a huge mortgage for the rest of my life. I think it depends on the person's lifestyle whether or not they would be happy. Personally, I would hate life, but there's others who might prefer North Dakota to OC! All depends what you're looking for and what makes you happy.

Not enough information here. It depends on one's salary, ones housing needs and where in North Dakota.

Would a single person making 150K per year, living in Newport Beach benefit from a 300K salary in Bowman, North Dakota? Definitely not! How about the case of a family of 4 making 45K/year in Orange County? Their lifestyle would be much better with 90K/year in Fargo.

Where in North Dakota? There is a big difference living out in the boondocks of southwestern North Dakota vs. a city like Fargo that is an easy drive both to the Twin Cities and Winnipeg.

Moving just to generic North Dakota is like saying moving to generic California. Where in California? La Jolla or downtown Stockton?

How much of that pay will it take to pay your heating and air conditioning costs? The summers are just as bad as the horrible winters.
