Basically my family is currently on HUD. I know, I know, only until I have enough for 50% DP on a house so I can get off the system FOR GOOD.

Anyways, the voucher is in my name- I'm head for financial reasons. It's only me & mother as my father died last year. We never received documentation noting we were downgraded to a 1 bedroom apartment. A year later I get a letter back dated a year ago requesting I sign for this 1 bedroom. I call our case worker and she claims we've been paying for this 1 bedroom ( even though we're in 2) & she just wants it for records. BS. They also claim to never have received documents we sent if, they keep messing with our rates, and I'm about done with their incompetence.

Is it time for legal action?
Also, do they even have grounds to downgrade us to a 1 bedroom when it's my mother & I ( 21 yrs old)? Our case worker states its "new policy" however this is UNACCEPTABLE. I comply with all rules - attend college full time 4.0 GPA, my mother is disabled just getting ready for her 3rd hip surgery. There is no excuse for this.

Social welfare program is not supposed to make your life comfortable. Stop complaining about having to share a room with your mother and instead better yourself so you are out of that predicament.

Despite the other harsh reply, I would be thankful I had the year in a 2 bedroom for the 1 bedroom rate. The 2 bedroom you leave will allow another larger family to have a place to live.

Good luck, Rg

You were supposed to notify HUD of any changes in your household status. Did you tell them your father died?

Are twin beds in 1 bedroom a problem? Sounds like someone should be grateful they have a place to live at a big discount.
