Yorba Linda, Newport Beach and Villa Park are the last Republican majority cities (but many other cities have a plurality of support for the GOP). Another notable feature is the ever increasing third party/Independent share of the total.

Interesting.

Looks like Northern OC is either turning Dem, is about to turn Dem, or at the very least is turning purple, although not Yorba Linda and Villa Park. Interesting that Orange is still as Republican as it is.

Looks like the Democratic party is barely growing and more people are becoming independent rather than join or identify with either. Explains the appeal of Bernie and Donald.

Honestly doesn't surprise me much. The majority of Republicans that fled LA are dying off.

Asians and Hispanics moving in are usually dems.

I wonder if it's actually the same people that are so dissatisfied with the Republican party and hanging their affiliation, or older Republicans dying and younger conservatives identifying as independents.

I turned in my R card when I was 25.

Some Democrats are turning Republicans. My sister and my daughter are in this category, surprisingly so. Maybe some don't even bother to change party's affiliation. They just vote Republican.

This is true. The data in the article shows that while Democratic numbers have pretty much stayed the same, Republican numbers have dropped while "No party preference" has risen.

Bernie and Donald appeal to some because Bernie is not hard-left while Donald is not hard-right. I wouldn't vote for Donald even with a gun to my head (), but he is definitely not what most would have expected in a GOP nominee.

What exactly do you consider hard left

Bernie couldn't be further left even if he got into an underwear wrestling match with Chairman Mao, while Ralph Nader and Elizabeth Warren and Karl Marx were spraying oil on them.
