The language under Sb270 shows the dark side of socialist thinking at best. Please note I am not saying nor condemning all socialism. Though this kind is just ridiculous as no store had been in the past required to either offer free bags nor charge for bags before these do gooder ordinances became faddish.
Nowadays EBT holders by law get their bags subsidized by all the other shoppers who now must pay the big grocers for the previlege to use store bags. Part of the money is definitely used to subsidize grocers cost for free EBT bags.

I am certain nowadays OC and much of Socal outside the few progressive enclaves now really want to secede from California as soon as possible and become their own state and would resist seceding with CA from the US as they will be under greater control by the people's republic of California who now continues to destroy their live and let live concept and force them to adopt more and more of CA's nanny state policies.
There you go, start a succession movement from CA, get signatures, etc. Sounds like a fun idea.

So if the Albertson's clerk in 2017 said " Do you want purchase a bag today beaner?" Your only response would be yes or no?

It's disrespectful to ask someone this. This type of disrespect happens to us all the time. Most of the time you brush it off. But sometimes you get so tired of the racist micro aggressions on a daily basis. That's what this is. I've worked as a cashier since EBT started. I never asked how a customer was going to pay. Next time I'm asked I'm going to play dumb. Ask what is and how do you get, ask a manager how do I get one, etc.

How do we know race was a principal factor in the first place? Poor people of all races pay with EBT, so perhaps the offended party simply looked like a pauper. Every day I judge people based on their personal appearance, and even when I see a White person who looks like a slob I maintain a certain degree of apprehension and I'll be like, "Get a haircut and try dressing like a proper gentleman, you slob. In the meantime, don't come anywhere near me." And I don't discriminate against any one race so I'm like that with all races of people whose appearance displeases me.

harlematlanta, the first time poster; no, not good for her. It is a waste of the courts time regardless of where it is. Obviously you have never been to Orange County.
I don't even get what your point is responding to my post, I was simply agreeing with someone's post.

Orange County has a racist reputation for a reason.

Her attorney, Chris Mears, said the actions of the store clerk and the company violate California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, which prohibits businesses from discriminating against customers based on race and other attributes such as sex, religion, national origin, color and sexual orientation.

“The corporate reaction to this incident is part of the problem,” Mears said. “They were only focusing on themselves and made no effort to step into the shoes of an African-American woman who was the recipient of this behavior, which shows a complete lack of empathy.” Each time there is a customer, the store had better make sure that they step into the shoes of the customer...or else.

Isn't the bolded the essence of customer service? Isn't that the business grocers are in?

Just saying...

The store says they every customer that same question. This fact alone says it is in a low rent district, where a lot of their business is EBT card.

Certain items cannot be paid for by an EBT card, and must be rang up separate from the other items. It saves time and trouble to know how to ring up the purchases. She was not singled out, as everyone is asked the same question.

The situation did have potential to be a little awkward or embarrassing for the shopper. Assuming the cashier noticed that in her reaction, a polite apology should have been sufficient, and would be for most people. How much does this lady and her lawyer want? They'll probably ask for $50 Million, hoping to get at least $25 Million out of it. That's just wonderful, isn't it?

The "victim" is looking to make a quick buck with another frivolous lawsuit.

Max210 - What the heck is a "beaner"? Someone from Boston? I've never heard that before.
