Will be moving later in the year from FL for a position in Long Beach-looks like the best place to live (have kids of school age) for me are maybe Irvine, Yorba Linda or Mission Veijo-any comments about the pros and cons of the 3 and the commute to LB would be appreciated. Not too worried about the cost factor, within reason.......thanks

Look at Seal Beach.

Irvine and MV are a long commute away from L.B. on many days. There are also very sterile bland places. Yorba LInda is better, but not a whole lot.

Old Town Orange is more interesting and closer, but the schools are not quite as good as Irvine or M.V. I think that Seal Beach has pretty good schools. Logn Beach itself has some nice areas and scattered decent schools. Do a lot of research. It is an important decision

Yep, Seal Beach and Los Alamitos/Rossmoor would be best bet. Looking for a home or apt? What range?

eastern Long Beach and Belmont Shore/Naples also have fair to good schools

The commute from where you're looking at about an hour each way, Yorba Linda maybe more because the 91fwy sucks.

If you want a cookie cutter neighborhood, car culture, good schools and a long drive to work, the neighborhoods you mention would work fine.

If you want walkable neighborhoods, close to the beach, houses with character, good schools, and a short drive to work look at East Long Beach, Seal Beach, Naples, Belmont Shore / Heights.

I don't think even if the person WANTS that that they should be moving to the southern half of the county. It is a very good area (I live here), but not good enough to be making a commute like that everyday. My husband did South OC to Long Beach and he was so stressed and tired. He switched jobs to Irvine only 20 minutes from our home and his commute isn't even a thought now. Do not go through a long commute, it tears you apart!
