I liked Aliso Viejo, but am not sure about proximity to work and commute (central Irvine).
Aliso Viejo is a nice area but trying to avoid the toll road between there and Irvine can be a pain. The toll road is very convenient but gets expensive if you're using it twice a day. I'd prefer Lake Forest or Tustin Ranch over Aliso Viejo for their proximity to Irvine.

You can check out what properties would take 3 dogs in a single swoop. The Irvine Apartment communities is the Apartment division of the Irvine Co. They manage/ own like 80%+ of the apartments in the city. They have an apartment finding center. Call them up & see what, if any, of their properties allow 3 dogs. You will cover 80% of the market in that one call.

If you need any advice on particular complexes, repost or DM me. Good Luck.

Oh, and as long as you don't have a jimmy choo addiction, you'll do more then fine on $110k in OC.

The problem with renting a apartment in Irvine (at least when I lived there) was they charge you a pet rent. Im not sure if its per pet cause I had one dog. At the time in Las Palmas, where I lived it was $50 a month in 06. And the pet deposit was $500. So your looking at some extra money down. Of course the market is different now and that all might be lower. I think there was a limit on how many pets you could have. I want to say 2.

Anyway look into it like the other poster before said and know before. Good luck. I lived in Irvine for over 4 years and liked it.

I've never understood the pet rent. The extra deposit for pets make sense as they can cause more damage that would otherwise would be the case...but pet rent? Some places want $50/per animal. My 2 cats don't make $100 a month.

I'm guessing a dog or cat can cause a lot more than $500 extra damage and maybe there's a limit on deposits. So they raise the rent and hope to collect enough additional rent to replace all the door moldings when fido chews through them. Or replace the carpet, pad, and chunks of subfloor when fluffy soaks them in urine.
