Looking at making the move from Southern Calif. to southern Oregon in the areas of Medford, Central Point areas. Looking for a little land 2-10 acres. Doesn't need to be real rural but not in the city either. Looking for advice on any areas around what I have described. My wife and I have 2 kids 6 and 7. My wife is an RN so finding her a job should be fairly easy and I'm a fireman who can transfer to a station in Northern Calif. and commute.I love the way Oregon looks and just can' t stand the demographics or politics of Calif. anymore. My son and I are into hunting, shooting etc. and we camp and have off road toys. Looking for any suggestions on locations, good school districts and all around good place in the area to raise my family. Any and all suggestions appreciated. We are going to come up in April to visit the area first hand but want to get a start on this ASAP, I need out!! Thank you.

After reading a few posts I guess I should add some data to better help you help me so here goes... We are White Republican Christians in our mid 30's who LOVE guns, archery etc. and this country. I need to stay close to the border to facilitate my working in Calif. I work for the state and can transfer somewhere near Redding, Ca. I need a place my kids can grow up without fear of gangs and serious violence. We would rather be outside fishing, hunting, riding ATV's etc. then sitting in a coffee shop talking smack. Don't want a ton of snow but a little now and then is ok. Like I said a little land is all I need. I was born and raised Calif. but won't look back for a second. I need better place for my family to grow up in. Hope this helps with you suggestions.

No one with any suggestions? I know you folks from Oregon hate us Californians coming into your state but I hate Califonians as much as you and would very much like to call myself an Oregonian. Please help.....

It seems like an awfully long commute, and sometimes they even close the pass on I-5 because of weather conditions.

You are posting this the day after Thanksgiving. I'd repost it in a week or so after people are done with their families. We do have some folks that live down south that participate on this forum that might be able to help you.

OK I guess I'll wait it out. This seems like a very good forum for this type of info and we are very excited to hear the positives and negatives before making the move. As far as the commute it's real easy.... I work 3 days straight then home for 4 so I drive once to work and once home it's not an everyday drive. If it was it wouldn't work at all. Thanks again
Justin

If Gangs bother you, you are looking at the wrong part of the state.

This post helped.... So you are saying that gangs are a large part of Medford, Ashland, Eagle Point, and Center Point? A little more input than that would be appreciated. What kind of gangs etc...

It's been a long time since i lived in Southern Oregon but I've heard there's a lot of gang activity there now.

You could look at this:

City of Medford Oregon - MADGE Task Force

When I lived down there, I lived in Azalea, and really liked it. Only went into GP or Roseburg once every few weeks for groceries etc.
