Don't forget to pronounce it right: ARE-ee-gone-ites. You want to make the best possible impression.

Get an Oregon map and have fun exploring:

Questions like this always make me laugh.
If you lived in a quiet, peaceful, beautiful little town, why would you announce it to the world?
Especially on a site like this, that has billions of people reading it trying to figure out where to move.
Next thing you know, it's not so quiet, peaceful, and beautiful anymore.

Not sure about Tillamook (haven't been there in a long time), but Astoria has got to be more than an hour from Portland. And Ashland, well...I'd guess six hours offhand. Not sure about Clatskanie. Hood River definitely.

What is this obsession with towns, anyway? I spent my first 13 years within a couple miles of the locks on the Yamhill River, then moved to the headwaters of Palmer Creek, followed by a move just downhill from Eola Crest, back to Palmer Creek for a short stay, then on to a lovely place overlooking Parrish Gap for 10 years, and now to a place just off the South Umpqua.

No towns. Towns are dirty, smelly and noisy.

Because people think they want Mayberry. Then when they live there, they realize that Mayberry is small. I can't tell you how many people I have met that think they want a small town, move to one, then move out a couple of years later.

Astoria is just under an hour from my house, as is Tillamook. Minus any traffic issues of course.

Sorry, I also meant Aurora, not Ashland. Clatskanie is on the other side of St. Helens and Rainier. About an hour. Astoria would be closer to 90 minutes (my fault,) but Tillamook is just under and hour from my house.

Also add in Canby and Estacada
