Believe me, I have seen quite a few couples break up over this kind of lopsided pressure put on one of the parties expected to find work. I am sorry to sound negative but this has to be a joint task; not just yours alone if you want to succeed here.
I know, that's why i'm doing all the work right now!

I know better than defame a company of individual. All I will say is that my observations are consistent jjpop's.

It's a little crazy ;-) but most truly worthwhile things are!

Oregon does have high unemployment at the moment, but everywhere does... The thing is that for qualified good employees there is still work out there. The problem a lot of people are running into is that they are expecting to walk into a job and get it easily without really putting effort into it (I am an employer so I speak from the voice of experience) Since there are so many more applicants for the same position - it's easier to be selective. It's likely that coming directly from the Army he would be a little better groomed then a lot of people who walk through our doors wishing for a job. That would be a definite plus.

I think it's likely to be a transition wherever you go but I have found that for the right people there are always opportunities. Put your best foot forward, and be tenacious in looking for a job. Metro areas are going to have a lot more opportunities but also a lot more competition.

Start looking now at job postings. Research the companies before you apply to make sure that you are what they are looking for, and for gods sake don't just throw out a bunch of blind resumes. Find out who is hiring (the name) and address a cover letter to them. Find about what they are looking for and apply for the ones that are a good fit right from the start and make sure that you are well groomed, confident and energetic without being spastic.

When you get the job - take the extra effort to do the best job you can. Learn in your own time, and go above and beyond what is expected. This is how you keep your job in a tough economy. We have one employee that does this and I can tell you that I would go out and get a second job to keep her on the payroll in slow season because she's a gem and we are unwilling to let her go in the slow season. That's the position you want to be in :-)

Good Luck and please thank your husband for protecting our freedom!
