That worked great for our ancestors. I didn't suffer air conditioning until I went to NY in the mid 60s. With proper siting and building design air conditioning is unnecessary in the PNW.

It's interesting how the climate was a consideration when deciding to locate there. The cooling of the servers is a major engineering problem. In the summer they use the “You open up your windows at night and shut them during the day” strategy.
I just found out that I know someone who works there. Hoping to get a tour soon. Would be extremely interesting to see how it all works in person.

Even if they don't directly provide a lot of jobs, they probably inject money into the economy in other ways which has to stimulate things.

Of course, I'm no Ben Bernanke so I don't know for sure.

Have any of you noticed that the server farms tend to be located along major power distribution lines, outside of large urban areas and not dependent on privately held generation plants (remember how Enron jerked California around)? The Dalles, Prineville... This makes good sense to me.
