Hi, What is your opinion on Gold Beach? Beauty, weather, crime, enough to do?

Hi, I've been there a few times and spent the night in a motel there. It was pretty nice but it is a small town. I couldn't say if there would be enough for you to do as that all depends on the individual.

I don't think there is much crime. The beaches are easy to get to and very nice. They do get some wind blowing pretty often.

Myself I think it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. I'd get bored after a while. However if you were going to live there part time like a snowbird it would be alright.

I forgot to mention that it's mostly retired people living at Gold Beach. The average age is way up there.

Gold Beach is a nice little town, but I wouldn't live there because it seems like it is walways very, very windy! It's also very small. I would suggest checking out Brookings which is 30 miles down the 101 from Gold Beach.

Thank You for all the replies. We will check out Brookings. We are looking for oceanfront and I know what you mean by windy, we used to live in Oxnard,Ca. on the beach and it is known for its winds and it can make for very unpleasant living. Thanks!

By county, Curry County, Oregon (Gold Beach and Brookings) has the second most elderly population in the U.S. Only Broward County, Florida, edges it out for the highest average resident age. It's kind of odd seeing the 70 and 80-somethings taking your order at McDonald's.

Here's how I see Gold Beach:
1) VERY windy.
2) Always people in small boats fishing where the Rogue River meets the Ocean.
3) Jet Boat Mail Boat rides look fun.
4) Rogue River area going inland good for fishing and gold prospecting.
5) Smokey air quality in the summer months from wildfires.
6) Gas, fast food, etc. more pricey down that direction.
7) (BigFoot Country).

I have pictures of Gold Beach free for the asking from our recent visit. We stayed the night in Gold Beach and enjoyed it. Real Estate is nice in the area. A lot have good views. The airport is nothing to speak of there and at Brookings. Rush hour traffic was all of 6 cars and that is in both directions. If you like ocean-front living, both would be ideal. It is hard to get anywhere from either location. I did meet one California that lived there. They loved it. The winter in Palm Springs each year and were happy as a Lark.

Then get off the computer, go to Humboldt County, wander off in the woods and wait. Don't get impatient; you have to wait a long time...months maybe.
