My husband and I are thinking of relocating to the Grants Pass area. We are retired so employment is not an issue. We would like to buy a home with a couple of acres where we can keep our horses. I've seen many properties that match our criteria but I'd like to know what areas are the best for horsey people. We are looking at areas from Selma to Ashland. Anyone have any recommendations. Which areas have good trails for riding?

Thanks

I recommend you contact this ranch: Home Page

Often there are riding clubs in these communities but I couldn't find one on the web around Grants Pass.

The Rogue-Siskiyou National Forest has an abundance of horse trails. http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/rogu...riding-camping I couldn't find a horse trail map so you may want to contact their headquarters in Medford. http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/rogue-siskiyou/home and ask about trail heads close to Grants Pass.

There are books available that list all the horse camps. The forest service maps will show all the trails.

Are there any areas with established trail systems through the neighborhoods?

Passing through that area I recall seeing a lot of riders on trails around the fairgrounds in Central Point. I think there is a rodeo held there as well as local riding competitions.

I've seen many folks with horses along the Applegate River. From highway 199 outside of Grants Pass drive along the Applegate River to over by Merlin. I think they ride over out there in the country, on trails

There are riding trails all throughout Crooked River Ranch, but that is along way from Grants Pass.

Get a Grants Pass street map. I guess you can still get them at the beginning of 6th street on the right by the "BIG CAVE MAN". Some Realtors have maps. Chamber of Commerce.

Some horse people live around Jerome Prairie Road,in Grants Pass, off of highway 199, going out of town toward Selma.

Horse folks live off Lower river road, Upper river road, Rogue River Loop Road, going toward Merlin. First you take a right onto "M" street, from 6th street. Follow it on out to Lower River Road.
