Indianola Junior High School established in 1909 was the first dedicated US junior high school. The junior-senior high school model continued to grow through the 20's and 30's. In the 40's the two began splitting into separate school entities. By 1950 the separate junior high school and senior high school were the norm. The reasons are too numerous to even attempt here. Coquille school district is proposing going back to an earlier time. One part of me likes it. One part of me isn't sure this is right for the times. However, Coquille elementary principal Sharon Nelson says this is, “what best fits this generation of kids.” I'll take her word for it.

Today:
Lincoln Elementary: Grades Pre-K-2
Coquille Valley School: Grades 3-8
Coquille High School: Grades 9-12
Winter Lakes High School: Grades 9-12

Future:
Lincoln Early Learning Center: Grades Pre-K and K
Coquille Valley School: Grades 1-6
Coquille Junior-Senior High School: Grades 7-12
Winter Lakes High School: Grades 9-12

I had a hard enough time being a 9th grader dealing with 12th graders. I'd hate to be a 7th grader and have a 12th grader clean my clock. Seriously, that seems like quite an age difference. How old are 7th graders 12-13?

Back to the future. LOL.......Maybe when kids feared teachers....

I'm thinking that 7th graders will be too young for seniors to bother. No fun picking on 11 year olds.

Of course, that's me. Modern kids have some twisted ideas of fun.
