Does anybody know how the schools compare to each other? Crime? Activities for kids? Family friendly? Which one is MORE likely to get a little bit of snow? Hubby's job would be in Medford. How long is the commute from Grants Pass?
Thanks.

Same. Same. Same. Same. Same. Way too long to think about.

The valley's best schools, by far, are in Ashland. You might also consider Central Point as it is garnering a reputation for family-friendly affordability and it's an easy 2-3 mile commute to Medford (practically a part of northwest Medford, really).

Grants Pass (Josephine County) was my first choice over Medford (Jackson County), but, since I was moving from a similarly cash-strapped county in Oregon that closed half the jail and stopped responding to crime reports in rural areas, I didn't want to go through all the funding woes facing Josephine County. Sure, Jackson County has its share of issues, too, but the budget seems a little more under control, probably in part because the property tax rate is higher -not quite double what Josephine County's rate is (Josephine is $7/$1000, Jackson is $11/$1000 - I think Curry County is still the lowest in the state).
