When I lived between Fossil Point and Pigeon Point in Barview (Coos Bay) I hated the tourists every time I tried to leave my driveway. Sadly, the tourist traffic isn't there any more.

Newport and Lincoln City are both nice. Differences? Yes, a few. Lincoln City tends to be more of a resort city, but Newport has its share as well. Lincoln has the casino, a big draw, but Newport probably has more of an authentic Oregon Coast feel. Newport has a small, but somewhat upscale neighborhood right on the beach, Lincoln is more spread out. They both have a lot in common. Clogged 101 during the tourist season, higher prices than inland, and downright cool during the summer, where temps often fail to reach 60 on the beach during the summer.

Sidebar: I once drove from the beach in Newport to Eugene in August. Temp 54 on the beach, 62 within a mile inland, 72 within 10 miles, 80 in the coast range, and 90 in Eugene. That is the rest of the story.

Pretty well that way from Border to Border.

Why does COOS BAY seem to be always brought up in threads about Newport and towns north of it?

Waldport and Yachats I can see, but Coos Bay?

Honestly, nobody in NW Oregon really gives a rip about Coos Bay.

That's because now that it has a Casino, it's a "destination" on the Oregon Coast now. So says the Coos Bay Tourism Board.

So start a thread of your own boosting the positives of Coos Bay.

Everyone thread I've ever read about CB was negative.

If Coos Bay is the best, it should hold up on it's own, instead of piggybacking on the great places everyone else wants to go visit.

Really. Sounds like a rule I was not aware of. The reference was to suitability. In some cases Coos Bay is a suitable choice and for some Newport would be. Lincoln City I am not so sure about.

............
Because pdxMikepdx, we are trying to convince the Californians that they don't have to move any further north than that. Coos Bay gets them into Oregon and it is on the coast that they want.
