I'm glad you have the skills, and tools to make your own. Seriously, I am insanely jealous of such skills and an adequately equipped workshop.

Whats the deal with Winco? It's cash only right?
How does it compare to Walmart or Freds price wise and selection?
Any Fresh food of quality?

About 20% less across the board. And often as much as 40% less.

It is not cash only, I use my debit card there. They sometimes have copper river salmon at a great price but it goes quick.

Yes they take debit cards. No Credit Cards. Bag your own groceries. They also take SNAP (Oregon Trail).

Winco does not accept credit cards, but they do accept checks and debit cards. Cash also works very well.

Winco runs wonderful specials. It depends upon what you are buying. I think that overall, to just pick something up, it might be close in price to the Walmart Superstore. Freddies is expensive and Winco is much lower in price than Freddies.

Winco also has an excellent bulk bin section with quality goods and excellent prices. They run good specials on meat and cheese, and so far the meat that I've bought at Winco has been good.

Not all the Wincos are the same. I only shop at the one in Salem, which I like much better than the one in Eugene, or the one I went to in Portland (there are probably several in Portland). In Salem the pork is good and often bargain priced, The beef is expensive, but local and it has always been good. I don't know if every Winco sells local beef.

The deli in Salem is good and the fried chicken is a good buy. I've never bought seafood there. I am distressed by their sale price on Tillamook ice cream because I am transporting my purchases for 3 hours and the ice cream wouldn't make it home. I've considered taking a spoon and eating the whole cartoon right there in the parking lot.

Wallyworld has freezer bags in the meat dept. I put ice cream & 0ther cold goods in them, then into large ice chests (coolers) in the bed of my truck. They make it home ok to the mountains...

Well, if you live in Medford, Natural Grocers has amazing produce and it's organic and it's only nominally more expensive. And the taste and freshness is much better than other stores.

Many of Costco's products are very high quality. On the other hand, when it comes to fresh produce, you better be feeding an army. There's no picking up a small amount of fresh produce at Costco.
