Yup, there are bears all around Ashland since it's right in the middle of the Siskiyous. I used to see them when I was hiking or riding around the trails above Park Street--or a few times out further in the Siskiyous. But they're basically not going to bother anyone.

Looks like a hungry bear in the city to me.

There is only one type of bear that actively stalks and hunts humans, and it doesn't live in Oregon. Even among that specific type, attacks are fairly rare.

OP, you're asking similar questions in other state forums where I suppose you're thinking about moving to, and your main concern seems to be children and wild animals. Your kids are actually more likely to be attacked by domestic animals in Oregon, Tennessee, or anywhere else you could move. The reason for this is because children often act like prey, making high pitched noises and moving quickly.

I will agree there is a high risk in Oregon of being attacked by domestic animals. It happens all too often and until laws are passed restricting these dangerous beasts, children will continue to be at risk.

Lol - that was pretty funny.

The closest actual cougar-human attacks I recall hearing about were up on Vancouver Island. Not to say it couldn't happen in Oregon, but I wouldn't spend a lot of time fretting on it, especially if you live the valley and aren't regularly hiking the deeper backwoods.

Boy found cub. Probably he shouldn't have touched the cub. Mama bear was probably out looking for food, & came back looking for her cub......If mama bear would have seen anyone bothering her cub, she would have been very angry, normally...

I have had three bear encounters and one Cougar encounter. None were in the city, and all were resolved without harm to me or the critters, but at least two of them required new underwear. The other two scared the critter more than me.

Do bears ..... Oh, never mind.
